Food identifies and tells the story of the territory. In few places in the world is this statement as true as in Sardinia. Cuisine is one of the most characterizing and distinctive Sardinian traits, an aspect that goes beyond the delicacies prepared on the Island and insinuates itself into the folds of its history. In San Pietro, an island within an Island, a place with a wonderful sea and a strong character, the culinary tradition represents the identity and soul of the community. The Girotonno is its symbol. Every year, the original food festival tells the story of ‘men, stories and flavors on the tuna routes’. Carloforte, the only inhabited center on the island, shows the world a fishing and cooking tradition in an international event that is the expression of a thousand-year-old culture, a tradition centered on tuna fishermen, rais and ‘tonnaroti’. A four-day program includes live cooking and delicious tastings of recipes from yesterday and today, presentations and guided tours. Cuisine and creativity, taste and show: you will discover secrets, anecdotes and curiosities revealed by the major protagonists of Italian cuisine. The highlight is the International Tuna Competition, a spectacular gastronomic competition between chefs from six countries – Italy, Israel, Greece, Palestine, Brazil and Japan – who are committed to exalting the qualities of tuna with their art, presented in traditional recipes and in creative variations, raw and cooked. The dishes will be judged by two juries: one of journalists, experts and opinion leaders, chaired by the famous television host Roberto Giacobbo -, and one chosen from the public. At the Tuna Food Village you will be able to see (and learn) from the hands of internationally renowned chefs and resident chefs art and culinary finesse, while they take turns in preparing the dishes, comment live and let the public taste their original creations. Agri-food specialties and artisanal products, from Carloforte and from all over the island, are on display inside the Expo Village. In the evening, the protagonists are the live shows, with concerts by Umberto Tozzi and Elettra Lamborghini and the show by Uccio De Santis. Taste, culture and tradition, ‘immersed’ in a breathtaking setting. Carloforte is a corner of Sulcis with a Ligurian flavour. Its landscape and historical characteristics are unique in Sardinia: of Tabarchina origin, it is closely linked to Genoa by historical and cultural ties. The historic streets and the seafront of u paize pulsate with life.
